The growing popularity of computers, video games and television is making children,

students and people around the world lead very inactive lifestyles. They are cramped

indoors throughout the day. A part of the time spent in this, should be spent doing some

physical activities. Playing a sport is extremely beneficiary for any person. I am a national

level cricketer and I have been playing the sport from 11 years and it has aided me in

numerous ways and it’s not just cricket, all sports are beneficiary.

Sports and games are a way of enhancing a person’s mental and physical growth. Sports

provides them with energy and strength. A healthy diet and an active lifestyle will induce

good results in a person’s lifestyle, mind and body. The recreational activities eliminate the

unhealthy habits of a person that may lead to diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood

pressure, heart diseases, joint pain, strokes and other chronic diseases. When people are

physically fit, they tend to concentrate more and achieve more academically and otherwise.

It helps them develop mental and physical fitness. Sports shapes their body and makes it

strong and active. Students should actively participate in sports to avoid being tired and

lethargic, this is because sports improve their blood circulation and their physical well-being

as well.

Sports also eliminates mental exhaustion. Physical activities may help bump up the

production of your brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters, called endorphins. Exercise can

provide stress relief for your body. It helps you take your mind off of any other problems

one might have such as work, studies, relationships etc. It can also improve your mood, help

you relax and lower mild symptoms of depression and anxiety. Regular exercise can also

improve your sleep, which is often disrupted due to pressure, depression and anxiety.

Sports develop a sense of friendliness among students and develops their team spirit. If

you’re playing a team sport, it teaches you how to win as a team and not to be selfish, it

teaches us how to co-operate with people, to think about others, to be selfless and how to

rise together as a group. Sports also helps you socialize and make more friends, as you get

to hangout a lot during practices and matches which develops an understanding with

others. Sports also helps in developing leadership skills. Most often when you look around

and see sportsmen, they tend to be leaders. They are used to being under pressure and

have the ability to think on their feet and react accordingly.

Sports helps you in developing as an individual and improve your personality, it gives you

self-confidence, it teaches you hard work, dedication and it keeps you on a routine. Once

you start playing a sport, you have a schedule, you go to bed early, you wake up early, you

are used to maintaining your fitness and once it becomes a habit, its most likely that it will

last for a lifetime. It also teaches you how to deal with pressure, how to smile during a loss,

how to be gracious while winning, to treat others with respect and how to present yourself

the best.

Playing sports helps your brain grow and makes it work better. Studies have shown that

exercise increases blood flow to the rain and helps the body build more connections

between nerves, leading to increased concentration, enhanced memory, stimulated

creativity and better developed problem solving skills, so sportsmen tend to excel

academically too.

Playing a sport is a must in life, it keeps you healthy, mentally and physically, it helps you

grow and gives you a new perspective to life.
